Ballot 2008
Suisun Resource Conservation District
Vote YES to save open space and farmland
and to fight climate change
California: YES on Measure 1A
Opt for Greener Transportation
Greenbelt Alliance endorses the creation of a high speed train from San Francisco and Sacramento to San Diego. Providing an alternative to driving and flying is an important step toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
East Bay: YES on Measure WW
Support East Bay Parks
In 1988, the East Bay Regional Park District passed a $225 million bond called Measure AA with Greenbelt Alliance’s support. Since the passage of that bond, the East Bay Regional Park District has permanently protected over 34,000 acres of land. Today, additional natural areas remain at risk and are opportunities for permanent protection. Greenbelt Alliance endorses Measure WW to reauthorize Measure AA, extending funding for purchasing land to create new parks, creating new trails, and restoring wildlife habitat.
East Bay: YES on Measure VV
Opt for Equitable Transportation
Greenbelt Alliance endorses Measure VV, which provides funding for AC Transit’s maintenance and operations costs. The funds will help to preserve affordable public transportation and provide transportation alternatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by getting cars off the road.
Pleasanton: YES on Measure QQ
Greenbelt Alliance endorses Measure QQ, which protects Pleasanton's hills without jeopardizing good development in the city’s center. Unlike Measure PP, QQ does not create growth restrictions now, enabling sustainable growth downtown and near transit.
Marin and Sonoma: YES on Measure Q
Opt for Alternative Transportation
Greenbelt Alliance endorses Measure Q, which provides a transportation alternative to driving on Highway 101 in Marin and Sonoma.
Napa: YES on Measure P
Preserve Napa Farmland
Napa County’s precedent-setting farmland protection measure, first adopted in 1990, requires any proposed development on agricultural land to be voted on by the entire county. This has been an essential part of maintaining Napa’s preeminent position as a wine-growing region. Greenbelt Alliance has joined allies such as the Napa County Farm Bureau in campaigning to renew these protections for the next fifty years. Measure P also protects important watershed lands and directs growth into existing cities and towns, preventing sprawling development on hills, vineyards, and farms.
Solano: YES on Measure T
Protect Rural Solano
Solano County is among the region's fastest growing, and most sprawling, counties. Measure T will safeguard more than 440,000 acres of farmland and open space. The Orderly Growth Initiative, which expires in 2010, has effectively stopped development in unincorporated Solano County over the last thirty years because it requires voters to approve any changes in land-use designations. Measure T will amend the initiative to incorporate updates to the General Plan, and extend it until 2028. Greenbelt Alliance strongly endorses Measure T, which will continue to guide most growth into existing cities and protect over 90% of the county’s agricultural and open space.
Moraga: YES on Measure K
Moraga Open Space Protections
In 1986, Moraga voters passed the Moraga Open Space Ordinance, which limited development on four major ridgelines around the town.Yet the ordinance wasn’t strong or inclusive enough, putting the scenic hills and other wetlands, riparian corridors, and wildlife habitats at risk. Local group Friends of Moraga Open Space, with the support of Greenbelt Alliance, placed Measure K on the ballot to protect more than 2,000 acres of the town’s beautiful open space and to defeat the competing, developer-backed Measure J.
Morgan Hill: YES on Measure H
Create a Vibrant Place
Permits the creation of homes in downtown Morgan Hill, encouraging downtown revitalization and reducing sprawl.
