Volunteer of the Month: Isaias Garcia

A San Francisco native, Isaias Garcia usedand expandedhis knowledge of the Bay Area over the past few months as Greenbelt Alliance's Compact Development Endorsement program intern.

Isaias is currently enrolled in the Urban Studies program at San Francisco
State University, and his academic understanding of urban development helped him to analyze real-world projects. Isaias also improved the Compact Development Endorsement program by helping to streamline the review process, making it easier for developers to apply for endorsements, and easier for the Compact Development Team to evaluate projects.

Thanks, Isaias, for spending a fruitful fall semester with Greenbelt Alliance!

Alert: Planning for Santa Rosa's Downtown

On Friday, January 5th, the City of Santa Rosa released its draft Station Area Plan, which lays out a vision for the city's downtown and the Railroad Square area.

The plan's release is an important moment in the campaign to ensure that the plan will result in a truly vibrant downtown: one with a mix of jobs, houses, and shops, pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly streets, and affordable homes.

Now is the time to comment on the draft plan to make sure the final plan is a good one. To learn how to do that, come to a community meeting:

When: Wednesday, January 31, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel, Railroad Square, Santa Rosa

The draft plan and timeline can be found at www.stationareaplan.net.

To get involved in improving the plan and creating a great downtown community, contact Daisy Pistey-Lyhne, Sonoma-Marin Field Representative, at (707) 575-3661 or by email.

And watch this workshop on cable TV:
On Thursday, January 18th, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., a workshop on the plan will be held in the Santa Rosa City Council Chambers, sponsored by Greenbelt Alliance, the Accountable Development Coalition, and the Conservation Action Fund for Education. The workshop, called "Creating Great Communities Near Transit," will be broadcast live on local cable Channel 69 and will be re-broadcast several times (click here to see times).
