Greenbelt Newswire
In this edition Vote Tomorrow: Greenbelt Alliance Voter's Guide Vote YES on these key initiatives to fight climate change, prevent sprawl, encourage public transportation use, and preserve Bay Area open space. California Statewide: East Bay: Moraga: Pleasanton: Marin: Napa: Solano: Sonoma: Morgan Hill: Success: Marin Fee Will Create Affordable Homes Good news for affordable homes in Marin! Now Marin workers will have a chance to live closer to their jobs. On October 14, Marin County Supervisors voted unanimously to establish a fee on new single-family houses to benefit the county’s affordable housing trust. The fee is based on the size of the house, increasing with the square footage. Greenbelt Alliance spoke up for the fee and applauds this decision, which will raise much-needed funds to create affordable homes in Marin.Action Alert: Attend Final Meetings for Concord's Future For more than a year, Greenbelt Alliance has been advocating for a sustainable vision for the Concord Naval Weapons Station, and the plan has come a long way. Now it’s getting down to the wire at three decisive final meetings. The community has spoken out in favor of a large regional park, homes near public transportation, and no development east of Mount Diablo Creek and south of Bailey Road. Speak out now to make sure the City Council follows through! All meetings are in the Council Chambers, Concord Civic Center, 1950 Parkside Drive, Concord.
Get involved! Action Alert: Speak Up for Cloverdale Boundary The last Sonoma County city without an urban growth boundary is at risk of missing its best chance to put one in place! The Cloverdale Planning Commission is reviewing the environmental impact of the city's General Plan on November 5. As it stands, the plan is vague about drawing a line defining where growth should or shouldn't happen and leaves the town open to potential sprawl development all the way to Asti. Tell the commissioners that an urban growth boundary will protect Cloverdale's small-town feel and preserve farms and open space around it, and that the General Plan is the right place to define that boundary.

Action Alert: Tour San Pablo Avenue's Potential Nov. 15 In the East Bay, local leaders from El Cerrito and Richmond are teaming up with Greenbelt Alliance and other allies to envision a better avenue between their cities. San Pablo Avenue is ready for new homes, jobs, and shops, so more people can take advantage of public transportation along this important corridor. Greenbelt Alliance will host an urban outing on November 15 to showcase ways to create thriving walkable and climate-friendly neighborhoods. The tour is in partnership with Urban Habitat, the Greater Richmond Interfaith Program, and the Great Communities Collaborative.

She scanned decades of photographs, sifting through materials to uncover a wealth of history, and corresponded with donors and members who would be attending the event. She helped make the event the success it was. Mary attends UC Berkeley, where she is studying how to promote sustainability in businesses.
